Rohit Talegoankar Appointed as Design Engineering Director at Cadence | Driving the Future of Semiconductor Innovation
In September 2025, Rohit Talegoankar stepped into the role of Design Engineering Director at Cadence, a global leader in electronic design automation (EDA) and semiconductor innovation. His appointment is a reflection of not only his technical mastery but also his ability to lead high-performing teams through some of the most complex challenges in chip design, verification, and functional safety. With more than two decades of cross-functional experience across semiconductor, telecom, and electronics industries, Rohit embodies the new generation of leaders who blend deep engineering expertise with strategic foresight and people-first leadership.
Rohit’s professional journey is marked by 11 impactful years at Intel Corporation, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s roadmap across imaging, industrial, and automotive domains. Most recently, as a Verification Manager for the Vision Technology Group, he led efforts to deliver next-generation camera and imaging solutions. These advancements were critical in enabling autonomous systems, computer vision, and AI-driven imaging — technologies that are redefining everything from consumer devices to mobility ecosystems. Rohit’s approach combined technical innovation with rigorous verification methodologies, ensuring that Intel’s imaging solutions delivered excellence in performance, safety, and scalability.
Earlier, as an IP Senior Engineering Manager, Rohit spearheaded the IP strategy and roadmap for industrial and automotive SoCs. His responsibilities included vendor alignment, contract execution, program planning, and BoM closure across complex multi-stakeholder ecosystems. By driving IP enablement and stakeholder synchronization, he ensured that product delivery met the highest standards of quality and timelines. His leadership extended beyond execution — he also enabled tools, methodologies, and IT infrastructure that supported innovation at scale, while mentoring teams to deliver cutting-edge IPs.
From 2018 to 2020, as Engineering Manager, Rohit managed end-to-end execution of IP proof-of-concept, design reviews, verification, and stakeholder management. He was instrumental in the delivery of high-quality IPs such as Intel Safety Island and Time-Sensitive Networking IP, alongside successful demonstrations of advanced concepts like Media Accelerators and Graph Accelerators. His ability to balance technical rigor, people management, and execution clarity set benchmarks for engineering leadership within Intel.
His tenure as a Functional Safety Engineer showcased his depth in safety-critical system design, where he specialized in FuSa compliance, diagnostics coverage, RTL and gate-level fault simulations, and FIT number measurement. This role not only strengthened Intel’s compliance with global safety standards but also positioned Rohit as a thought leader in designing resilient and fail-safe systems for automotive and industrial applications.
Prior to Intel, Rohit gained extensive experience at Mindspeed Technologies, where he served as Verification Manager and earlier as Verification Senior Staff Engineer. Here, he led complex SoC verification programs, including chip validation, power management, silicon bring-up, and interface characterization. His leadership in ARM-based environments, SoC testbench architectures, and gate-level verification contributed to Mindspeed’s delivery of telecom-grade, highly reliable silicon solutions.
Rohit’s career foundation was laid in earlier roles at Conexant, Tecnomic/Actel Corp., and United Technologies, where he worked on FPGA designs, ARM-based SoCs, and set-top box security. These formative years exposed him to the end-to-end semiconductor lifecycle — from design and verification to customer-facing delivery and product validation. His early exposure to global projects, customer requirements, and technology integration provided him with the breadth of vision that he continues to apply in leadership roles today.
Across his journey, Rohit has consistently demonstrated three core strengths:
- Technical Leadership: Driving SoC and IP verification strategies, implementing advanced methodologies like UVM, and ensuring compliance with global safety and performance benchmarks.
- Strategic Program Management: Aligning IP roadmaps with business needs, managing stakeholder ecosystems, and enabling infrastructure to support large-scale innovation.
- People-First Leadership: Mentoring engineering talent, building high-performance teams, and creating environments where collaboration and innovation thrive.
Now at Cadence, Rohit takes on a leadership mandate at a time when the semiconductor industry is at the center of global transformation. His role as Design Engineering Director involves not just delivering technical excellence but also scaling engineering innovation to meet the rising demands of AI, 5G, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, and IoT ecosystems. At Cadence, Rohit is expected to play a defining role in:
- Expanding EDA-driven design capabilities to accelerate time-to-market for customers.
- Driving functional verification excellence across next-generation SoCs.
- Partnering with industry leaders to integrate safety, performance, and efficiency into cutting-edge designs.
- Mentoring global teams to ensure talent readiness in an era of engineering transformation.
For Rohit, leadership has always been about more than engineering outcomes. It is about creating a culture of resilience, innovation, and collaboration. He believes that the future of semiconductors lies in bridging people, processes, and platforms, ensuring that technology not only advances industries but also enriches human lives.
At CXO Gateway, we celebrate Rohit Talegoankar’s journey as one that epitomizes perseverance, technical depth, and forward-looking leadership. His appointment at Cadence signals a new era of innovation in design engineering, where leaders who combine vision with execution excellence will shape the future of the semiconductor industry. Rohit’s story is not just about career progression — it is about how consistent dedication, adaptability, and leadership can define industries and inspire the next generation of engineers worldwide.
