Bringing AI, platform thinking, and hospitality tech to scale
Compass Group has appointed Ram Raipati as Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer. Ram joins at a time when hospitality and foodservice are leaning hard into digital: personalization, operational automation, and platform-first technology. He brings more than 20 years of experience leading large-scale digital and AI initiatives across retail and enterprise technology.
What he’ll lead
In this role, Ram will drive Compass’s enterprise digital agenda, with priorities that include:
- Leading enterprise-wide digital transformation and platform modernization
- Scaling AI-enabled systems and intelligent operations for kitchen, service and back-office workflows
- Improving customer and operator experiences through better data, personalization and omnichannel capabilities
- Modernizing infrastructure and aligning technology investments with business growth
Why Compass brought him on
Ram spent 13+ years at Best Buy, most recently as Senior Vice President and Digital Technology Officer. There he helped modernize e‑commerce, mobile, B2B and marketplace platforms, led AI adoption efforts, and built resilient, cloud-first systems that supported omnichannel growth. His hands-on experience spans platform engineering, governance, and operating-model change–exactly the skills Compass needs as it scales tech across thousands of locations.
What he’s done before
Ram’s track record includes:
- Building loyalty, personalization and retail-media platforms that drove engagement and revenue
- Leading omnichannel commerce programs covering web, mobile, stores, checkout and marketplace capabilities
- Moving legacy systems to API-first, cloud-native architectures and maturing DevOps practices
- Earlier roles at Wipro and TCS where he led enterprise architecture, supply-chain modernization and large application transformations for global clients
How he’ll add value
Ram combines product and engineering leadership with commercial thinking. That blend helps turn technical projects into measurable business outcomes–faster checkout, smarter supply chains, more personalized customer journeys, and more efficient operations for site teams and operators.
Why this matters now
Hospitality is becoming tech-native: customers expect personalization, operators need automation, and margins depend on operational efficiency. Compass’ hire signals a strategic push to use AI, platforms and modern engineering to improve experiences and scale operations reliably.
CXO Gateway perspective
At CXO Gateway we view Ram’s appointment as part of a broader shift: digital leaders who can connect architecture, AI and commercial outcomes are now central to competitive advantage. Ram’s background–platform modernization, AI adoption, omnichannel commerce–positions Compass to accelerate its technology roadmap while keeping customer and operator experience front and center.
